Beginners Group Piano Lessons

These lessons are scheduled in banks of 5-8 lessons over a specific period time.  The groups consist of 8 or less students per lesson.  Keyboards with dual headphones output are provided.  Lesson schedules are posted on the calendar.

ROYAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC EXAM PREPARATION LESSONS

These classes are conducted to ensure students taking the practical and theory examinations (ABRSM) for Grades 1-8 can learn and demonstrate all the needed skills to ensure the very best exam results.

Theory Classes are offered and done by grades.  These classes are open to all students of any age, regardless of teacher or learning circumstances.  Although it is not recommended to study music without a private teacher or being in a formal or college music program students wanting to take these classes are accepted as long as they can satisfy the pre-requisites.  Even though the focus of the theory classes is preparation for the ABRSM exams any student wanting to learn music theory is welcome to attend these classes so long as they can pass the pre-requisites for the grade level they are enrolling in.

Practical Classes – These classes are divided into 4 different disciplines:  Students enrolling in these classes must be able to competently demonstrate competence in all prior grade levels materials.  Alternatively, students can present the ABRSM examination results.

  • Scales & chords – each grade has required scales and chords that must be demonstrated. These are instructed according to the published syllabus for each grade.
  • Aural Practical – These classes instruct students in all the required skills for the Aural tests of the grade level they are attempting.
  • Selected Songs and Performance Instruction – Each grade level for the exams requires students to select three (3) performance pieces and prepare them for their exam. Every piece has performance requirements and will be judged on the ability of the candidate to demonstrate precision in those requirements. Students who are attempting a practical exam are well advised to get specific instruction for their performance.
  • Mock exam – Students can request to do a “mock exam”. Such an “exam” is conducted in the same way and considering the exact practical exam requirements for the grade being attempted.   The student is graded based on the formal grading system issued by the ABRSM.  The student is then given the results for each section of the exam.  As needed the student can then get further instruction to ensure their success in the attempted grade or feel confident that they are ready.
